Success!!! Many thanks to those who replied to my problem.

In summary, I was loosing my network connection between the Win 2K and NT
machine and intuitively blaming the vnc connection / software. ;-) I
realized this when I was intermittently unable to ping the NT machine w/o
any software apps running.
The fix was to go to the BIOS and shut down all the power management
features. It have been running stable for several hours now. I hope I
don't jinks myself!

Arnt, Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Now this is the strange part...

> After this a ping from the 2K to the NT machine also works fine once a key
is pressed. After that I am also able to connect to the NT machine with the
viewer from the 2k box.

One of the things I would think of is power management. The power management
on your Server box may be putting it into sleep mode. For vnc, I think the
connection might die if the video card and/or the network card is powered
down (which power management can do).

                  Best Regards,
                                  -- Dan

All, I am a newbie to vnc world. I am trying to get the application working
but I am running problems.

I need to control a machine running Win NT 4.0 (4.0.1.1381) which I believe
has sp6 installed. I installed the vnc as a service on this machine.
I am connecting to it from a IBM A21m laptop running Win 2K and using the
vnc viewer/client.

The problem: I can connect to the machine and the application seems to work
for a few minutes then the connection freezes. The display on both the NT
machine and the 2K machine are frozen. When I try to ping the NT machine
from the 2K machine I get a connection time out.
A few seconds later the vnc viewer disappears from the 2K machine.

When I press any key on the NT machine the display on the NT box starts to
update again. After this a ping from the 2K to the NT machine also works
fine once a key is pressed. After that I am also able to connect to the NT
machine with the viewer from the 2k box.

After reading the mailing list archive I have disabled screen savers with no
changes in the symptoms. At this point I am not running any applications on
the NT machine. I also disabled all software firewall applications. However
I am running Norton antivirus on the 2K machine.

I would really appreciate any help, suggestions or comments on how to
proceed?

Many thanks,

-- Dan
