Yep, my suggestion would be to forget the MSI package, unless you absolutely have to have it.
At my work, we decided to use FastPush <http://www.darkage.co.uk> and it's awesome! Now that we have it set up, I can deploy VNC to any computer on our WAN in seconds. We have sites all over the state, and the fastpush/vnc combination has made me a hero to my boss. :) There's even instructions with the package on how to automatically deploy to all of the systems that are on-line, automatically.
