When trying to debug network connections first try telnet before
you try the app (vnc). Can you telnet to the machine you're trying
to reach with vnc? If telnet works you should recieve some response
like 'RFB...'. The command for using telnet is something (for unix)

$ vnc REMOTEIP 5900
