Also, it is not just when VNC is started from the init.d scripts that
this problem exists. If I go in with Kermit and kill that VNC session,
making sure that all of the related processes owned by my uid are
gone, then start it by running the following script, I get the same
results.

vncserver -geometry 1575x1125 :9

Pretty simple, eh? Since there is nothing else going on at this point
*but* vncserver (and stuff it invokes), I'm thinking that it is
probably "at fault". If I log in on the console, I have my same
environment, same windows, same tool bar, etc. The exception is that
when I log in on the console, all of my bash shell windows have
default SIGINT and SIGQUIT settings, rather than ignoring them.
