Hello, Can anybody out there help me please.
I was running VNC 3.3.7 successfully on my home computer ( Windows XP home edition) as a server and as a service. I was running VNC 3.3.7 successfully on my Laptop ( Windows XP Professional) as a client accessing my home computer. I was using the default settings on VNC, I did not alter anything since everything was working OK. Several days ago, my ISP released a patch for the MsBlast Virus which I installed on my home computer. Then I installed an MsBlast patch from Microsoft website for my laptop. After the patch installations, I could not use the VNC client anymore to access the VNC server. I get a message "Failed to connect to server" MANIFESTATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. I cannot ping my home computer (VNC Server) address: 12.236.25x.xxx. 2. This VNC server IP address is the same as before the patch was applied, it has not changed after the MsBlast patch was installed. (Which leads me to believe that the ISP did not switch into proxy server) 3. I can ping several addresses above and below the server IP address successfully. 4. After scanning all available ports on the server IP address, I can see that only Port 21 (FTP) and Port 80 (WWW) are open. 5. I presume the MsBlast patch blocked all ports except 21 and 80. Or perhaps my ISP did. I DID THE FOLLOWING AFTER READING FROM VNC-SEARCH LIST THAT PORT 21 CAN BE USED: 1. On the VNC server , I changed the Display Number on WinVNC: Current User Properties to: 59657 and unchecked auto. This is supposed to make it work on Port 21. Re-started computer and recheck settings after re-start. Still there. 2. On my laptop , I tried to access the VNC server from my office where I normally do it, by adding (-5879) to show the following address as follows: 12.236.25x.xx:-5879 on my VNC viewer. It does not work. Can anyone tell me what else to do to make it work? Thanks, TC _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
