More news...Its not the monitor or the keyboard that causes the problem...Its the mouse.
I tried various combinations on the Win2k machine and found that when there is a mouse attached, the cursor is generated just fine. When there is no mouse attached when I boot up the machine, then the previous problem occurs.
It is interesting that without a mouse (I assume because there is not a mouse driver loaded) that the cursor still appears sometimes (like when the regedit searching window is displayed).
For now, I plugged an old mouse into my headless (VNC only) server. Is there a way (perhaps in the next release) to eliminate the mouse?
Thanks,
...Karl

Hi All...
I have installed RealVNC 4.0b4 on four machines: one Win98 and three Win2k machines. On the Win98 and two Win2k machines, it works great. On one Win2k machine, I have the following problem. All machines previously worked great with 3.3.7. When I installed 4.0b4, I did a clean install...removing all of the old ORL registry entries.
This machine has no monitor, keyboard or mouse attached, except when I take it down the hall for a special purpose (like upgrading from 3.3.7 to 4.0b4). My only access is via VNC (and also OpenSSH/Cygwin). Other than no monitor, this machine and one of the working ones are similar.
When I VNC into this machine, I don't get a local cursor reliably. When I first log in, I get the little "box" cursor. Then when I run programs, I occasionally see the arrow cursor. For example when I run regedit, I only get the arror cursor when regedit is displaying for example the "search in progress" box. When the box goes away, the arrow cursor goes away. At times, then I have no cursor at all on the screen because sometimes the little "box" cursor goes away. This makes it a bit interesting to navigate.
If I disable the local cursor rendering, then I get the little "box" cursor all the time. The arrow cursor still comes and goes in regedit exactly as before. But at least, I never loose the little "box" cursor.
I have tried disabling the graphics accellerations. No change.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any thoughts on what else to try or to look for?
Thanks,
...Karl
