I'm a first-timer on this list and hope someone can help me out.

Fairly recently, I began getting a WinVNC splash screen at bootup of a W2K
box. I normally tell it to "cancel" but I'm not certain that it's actually
doing so. I don't remember installing WinVnc on this machine, nor would I
have had any reason to, and I wonder if it wasn't "fast-pushed" onto the
machine through the net. There is no WinVNC icon in the task bar, there is no
mention of WinVNC in the "programs" listing, and I can't find a mention of
"winvnc" searching the hard drive. The only mention that comes close is
"VNCHooks.dll" which resides in C:\WINNT\Fonts. I can't find any mention of
WinVNC in the "add-remove" programs, either.

So, how do I remove this thing?

My concern is that it may have been sent my way as a form of malicious
activity, although I really can't tell that anything along those lines has
happened. ZoneAlarm has noted it trying to make contact to the net (to an
address I am unable to reach), but I hopefully have that activity stopped with
ZA.

Previous internet access was a Direcway one-way system with terrestial uplink.
No real firewall on the machine at that time. Now connected to wireless via a
Router w/ NAT translation, and also using ZoneAlarm. I'm trying to get my
security up to snuff, and would like to remove this program that I currrently
have no use for.

Thanks for any advice.
