Sounds interesting, but one thing that I *really* like about VNC is that
the state is stored on the vncserver end.  I can go anywhere and access
the same thing.  If my connection dies, vnc is still there, exactly as I
left it.  If my student is working in his/her cube and comes to me with a
problem, I can bring up his/her vnc window and see exactly what he/she was
working on.  No matter how fast X gets, it still has to store much of the
state on the X server, which is on the client machine.  A lost connection
would be a serious problem for X.
