What pings are you talking about? From the WAN to your PC? or from the PC to
the WAN?
If people on the WAN are trying to ping you , what IP address are they
using - since in all probability you have an IP address that is allocated to
you by your ISP - and (even with DSL) this changes quite often.

What are you trying to do? Use VNC from office  to home?  If yes, then look
at these people - they provide an excellent way to get at systems that
connect to the net via allocated (hence dynamic) IP addresses:
http://www.no-ip.com - works for me!
