This is actually a relatively easy thing to do nowadays. The prices for
wireless equipment has been dropping and becoming a more realistic and
reliable technology. Depending on what way you want to go, there are several
options, you can get a wireless access point and connect it to your XP
machine and then get a wireless card for the laptop, or you could get a
wireless card for both and just run an ad-hoc network. Best thing to do is
to shop around for the wireless equipment and make the decision based on
your needs for functionality and possibility for future expansion i.e. if
you want to add more computers at a later date, the access point would be
the best choice as it allows you to expand to more wireless devices more
easily. Hope this helps. - Marc

Subject: Advice

Hi

In order to make my working environment comfortable I have a PC (XP Home
Edition) in a room upstairs but would like to work downstairs and use the
laptop (Win 98SE) instead. I could use the VNC to access my files from the
PC but I do not want the hassle with the installation of cables etc, etc. Is
it possible to have an inexpensive wireless connection? I am not familair in
this field so would appreciate advice on hardware and software requirements
and if possible approx cost.

Have a great New Year!

Thanks

Christopher
