Mike, Check that there isn't already a user logged in. Windows XP supports Fast User Switching, which current VNC releases aren't compatible with - if you log in more that one user at once then the VNC server will only be able to see the first user's desktop, and only when it is visible locally, via the monitor, rather than the log-in screen being visible.
