So your post subject is misleading. The problem seems to reside in your Win98
and have nothing to do with WinXP.
As far as I can remember, w98 doesn't have event log, so that's not the cause.
And what error or warning do you have when you try to connect to it? Are you
sure no other application is using the same port, ie 5900?
