Good, so far...

Okay, until now you have not mentioned one major piece of software,
namely the SSH server. Have you setup an ssh server on your home pc
yet?

This seams to be a point of confusion on your side, as the SSH tunnel is
from the ssh-client (putty in your case) to your ssh server (???) and is
transparent to vncserver/vncviewer (Ummm, I think that what is meant by
tunnel 8-). In other words, getting your ssh tunnel setup and running
between your ssh client/server is a separate step.

As for help, I wrote a Docu on setting up the client side ssh tunnels on
m$ windows machines, you can get it at:
http://home.intergga.ch/Westrick/Using_SSH_tunnels_from_M$_Windows.pdf

I've also got a similar docu for setting up OpenSSH (cygwin) servers,
but as the docuement was written for the company I work for, I need to
go over it to remove all references to clients, IP-Address, etc etc
(Biggest pain is to get all the pretty pictures again, since these have
company info on it! 8-(

Maybe someday...
