Hello! I seem to be missing something very basic about setting up VNC - I'm not sure it's even quite what I'm looking for. At school, we have remote X access using Cygwin (on the client machine)... When you connect to the server, you receive the graphical login screen (the "Greeter").
What I'm looking to do with VNC is to allow a similar service (sans Cygwin). I was thinking I'd create a user account "vnc" with a shared password, and then run vncserver from that account, which I would have launch my graphical greeter to facilitate system logins. I think I'm on the right path - I'm trying to run /usr/bin/gdmgreeter - which is what my system is running locally to facilitate graphical logins. I get an error from GDM saying that the versions of GDM and GDM-Greeter are out-of-sync, and that I shoudl restart my computer. I've done this a couple of times, with no success. I guess what I'm getting at is: is this a GDM problem (it doesn't happen locally), or am I trying to run the wrong program through VNC. Has anyone run into this snag? Do you know of another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Any help would be greatly appricitated, Micah Berman _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
