You say it "disappears".  As in the window closes?  Or goes to black.

If it goes to black, you have to turn off "fast user switching" on the XP
box.

HOWEVER -- I just got done with some testing today and made some interesting
findings.  If there is ONLY one user logged in to the XP box and that is the
ONLY one you want to log in to, VNC will connect.  If you have more than one
logged in, or log a second ID in, black screen.
