Hi BloF

Though effectively the University of Trier seems to offer a very complete
package , I still think that your project is very interesting for us (
Fusion Research centers) , provided that it is integrated in official
windows RealVNC or ( and if possible ) in Unix RealVnc .
This multicast added or not to Unicast could be an option in WinVnc setup .
VNC has still the big advantage that it is a precious and so versatile open
source module that we can include in many remote work application.

Why are we so interested ?
Fusion association use VNC as a very convenient way to broadcast for example
powerpoint scientific presentation between various Fusion research centers (
Italy , France , England, Canada ) the slides of the lecturer which are
shown by a window PC are generally relayed by a Unix VNC proxy on which all
participants can connect , sound and voice are carried via VRVS ( which is a
superset of mbone tools VIC and RAT with even an option of using unicast VNC
) , see <http://www.vrvs.org/> www.vrvs.org
I think that VRVS team could then also be interested by your project .
.
We started here a project of multicast MP3 local streaming , which was
planned to be used in conjunction with VNC to broadcast locally conferences
inside our subnet .
If MP3 streaming gave a very good sound ( for human voice , not for music )
with only 16 or 24 Kbits seconds , the fact that several unicast associated
VNC connections could overload the network obliged us to leave the project
unfinished.

I send also copy of your message to all my contacts which will be also be
probably interested.

Hope to keep contact

Best regards

Jean-Marie Theis

Subject: MultiCasting VNC

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello,

I am interested in making Multicasting option in vnc

I plan to make a program that will be on the server

computer and get the data from the server and send it

to the viewers using UDP protocol.

in this way, for example many computers will be able

to connect to my program (to the server...) and view

its Desktop (in TCP it will be slow..).

Like a teacher could show something on his/her

computer and all the students would see it on their

computer.

I am committed to do this as a project, and I'm afraid

its not applicable becuase my program (which is like a

client) won't be able to connect to the server on the

same computer (the 127.0.0.1 error?).

Please help, and also I would like to hear your

opinion about this idea.

Waiting for your Answer,

Thanks, BloF.
