When using the java client, the password prompt just indicates you got
served the java viewer (at least on pre VNC4 versions).  As the
"NoRouteToHost" error shows, it doesn't indicate connectivity to the RFB
port of the server.

When using a native vncviewer, on the other hand, the password prompt
means you have at least connected to the RFB port.
