If you're on a LAN unrestricted by firewalls, the VNCScan
(http://www.vncscan.com) makes it easy to connect to network shares on
the computers that are running VNC. You just right-click a computer and
view its shares. Easy enough.

VNC doesn't include file transfer function. Depending on your
server and client systems, several workaround/solutions are possible.
The most universal one is to use FTP server in the VNC server. Then in
viewer machine, you can use any ftp client to do the transfer.
