A WAN can be a part of Internet (if VPN tunnel is used) but that doesn't mean 
kerberos works in Internet.  Or do you mean there's a kerberos server somewhere in the 
Internet and everyone can have access?

It works fine wide-area.  That's how access to the GNU machines used to be 
authenticated.
