Here is the information (from experience) I have to date. On Windows 2003 standard server the screen server activated. The connection to the VNC4 viewer was terminated. I could not reconnected.
I established a RDP session to the server and tried to stop the release version of VNC4 server service. It refused to to stop. I then used SysInternal's process explorer to force the VNC4 server to stop, to which the service manager noticed the service gone (it was still waiting for it to stop) and performed the re-start of the VNC4 server service. I could then reconnect to the VNC4 service.
