It made me think that there might be some interest in creating a slightly tweaked version of winvnc4 server called something like HelpDeskVNC. I feel the following features would be necessary:
1 - Single .exe that includes the needed dll files. This would allow posting of a link to the exe on a website and the customer could save the file to their desktop or choose to run after clicking on the link in Internet Explorer. No installer.
2 - When the program is run it tries to make a connection to 1) a specified listing client encoded in the exe or 2) if more than one client is encoded in the exe it presents a list of clients to connect to is displayed or 3) if no servers are encoded in the exe it presents a connect to dialog where the customer specifies the server name or ip.
3 - No configuration or registry entries are needed. Remote incoming connections should not be allowed.
4 - After the connection closes, HelpDeskVNC quits.
It seems like it would not require much in the way of modification to the winvnc4 source, and should be kept as simple as possible to facilitate patching future versions of winvnc4.
Would anyone else looking for these features be interested in pledging $50 to encourage the development of a HelpDeskVNC variant? Anyone makeing a pledge would be responsible to paypal the developer on completion of project.
Would any developer be interested in modifying the source if we could put together something like $500 to create this variant. The resulting program and source would have to be freely available to others/GPL.
Please post to list or email me if there is any interest.
