All,
I'm having the exact same problem on Solaris 7. Solaris 8 is on a Ultra30 and Solaris 7 is on a E250.
I have the latest patch cluster on Solaris 8. I searched the patch report to make sure I have the latest patches for the FFB frame buffer also.
Does anyone know the syntax for -log ? I found a blip about /uar/adm but I don't see any X* logs.

All,
I have VNC 3.3.7 running out of inetd on Solaris 8. I've installed VNC 4.0 using the same config. When I start VNC I get to the login prompt however when I login to the system the VNC window disappears. No errors no processes? Any ideas, suggestions?
TIA -Kevin
I found out (the hard way) that the new Xvnc does NEED a security setting, it does not default to no-security.
Hence, update the options to Xvnc (in /etc/inetd.conf or /etc/xinetd.d/vnc) and add " -SecurityTypes none" to them.
For the users with the older viewers and access problems, there is a new option to fall back to version 3 usage. Check documentation on the website for details.
(sorry Kevin, I missed your first post, I hope you find this message).
