Do you have an extremely large screen on the server? There is a sanity check in the code to make sure that the ZRLE encoder doesn't allocate a huge buffer. It's possible you're exceeding it (I should probably make the default quite a bit larger).

You could try forcing 8-bit colour mode by unticking "Auto Select" on the viewer. Alternatively, assuming your viewer machine is a Windows box, set "Color quality" under Display Properties->Settings down to 16-bit rather than 32-bit.
