I have Real VNC 4.0 running in Service Mode on a Win XP laptop in a docking
station, and I connect to it across an intranet from another Win XP machine
and from a Win98SE machine. Everything works fine from the remote
machines; however, occasionally the server's keyboard partially locks up.
The ctrl+alt+del sequence works to bring up the logon dialog, but I can't
type my password in. Some of the keys do still work such as the tab key,
arrow keys, etc., but none of the alpha or numeric keys work ... and
neither does the off-on switch on the laptop work. After forcefully
powering it down (by removing it from the docking station and removing the
batteries) and powering back up everything works normally until after I
connect one or more times from a remote computer via the Real VNC 4.0
viewer. Here are the viewer settings I have set: Color/Encoding - auto
select; Inputs - send pointer events, send keyboard events; Misc - render
cursor locally, allow dynamic desktop resizing.

The server laptop is set to use 'Secure Logon' which forces users to use
Ctrl+Alt+Del in order to logon. On the server the Fast User Switching and
the Remote Administration options are disabled in WinXP. The problem only
occurs if I lock the server via VNCViewer from a remote machine. If I
leave the server unlocked or if I lock the server locally via it's own
keyboard (even during an active viewer session) the problem does not occur.
And the problem only affects the server's own keyboard. Even after the
server's local keyboard has locked up I can still have remote sessions
which work perfectly via the viewer, and if I then remotely unlock the
server via VNCviewer the local keyboard begins to work properly again.

I have read a number of similar sounding complaints from others in the
List, and the 4.0 bug list has a similar listing. However, none of those
is exactly the same as my problem, and in case it is the same issue I
thought my added input might help in finding a solution.
