Subject: How to connect remotly
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi

I am connected to internet through dial-up connection.
Mine is standalone machine with win-xp.
Another machine connected to internet through dial-up
connection. That is standalone machine with win98.

Both of us are installed only real vnc software.

When I give ipconfig I will get following
ip adr: 24.4.150.18
subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 16.138.1.1

In another machine I get following
ip adr: 164.94.10.178
subnetmask: 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway: 106.18.51.15

Will our computer can be connected ?
When I tried, it is not possible. Even not possible
to ping.

Can anybody help me how to solve the problem.

Thanks & Regards,
Anand GP

Hi,
I was connected to a VNC server doing just fine, closed connection and now
can not make the connection again.
Is there anyway to clear this ip addres so I may reconnect?

Hello All,

This is my first post to this list and, in case I forget, thanks-in-advance
for your help!

Problem:

I have two computers running Windows XP, in different locations and
environments, that are getting the same error and causing the VNC Server to
crash.

One computer is running on XP Service Pack 1 and the other is running on XP
Service Pack 2 RC1.

The server appears to be running fine for about 4-7 connections by a client
and then it crashes. The service literally stops.

In XP's event viewer, upon nearly every connection (successful as well as
the final one that crashes the VNC Server) by a client an error is
generated:

FrameBuffer: BitBlt failed:5

The computer on my home network is an Athlon 1100, running XPSP2RC1, nVidia
GeForce3 TI 200, with mostly updated drivers from nVidia (perhaps to
revisions ago, just a few months old). All connections to the VNC Server are
over a private LAN.

The computer at a client's site on an unrelated network is a P4 2800,
running XPSP1, GeForce4 5200, had about the same drivers and then I recently
updated to the latest revision; and with either it still crashes. All
connections to the VNC Server are over the internet.

Cheers,

Damion

When you say "can not make the connection again", what do you actually mean?
What are the server & viewer versions and platforms? How many times have
you tried unsuccessfully to connect & have the error messages always been
the same?

Yeh, what I mean is that the VNC Server Service crashes, bombs, shuts-down,
stops. It's just not running anymore in XP. It has to be restarted.

Heh, I guess I should have put that in the first email :) I'm using VNC 4.0
(built on June 15, 2004) for Win32 (server and client) on all machines.
Also, all machines are running Windows XP Professional.

After it crashes/stops running, you can't connect to it at all. If you go to
the computer that the service stopped on, all you have to do is restart the
service or reboot depending on your Windows acumen :)

Cheers,

Damion

Karla,

When you say "can not make the connection again" and "The remote system had
to be rebooted to clear so I could reconnect", what do you actually mean?
What happened when you tried to connect?

What do you mean by "renew the connection"?

Have you tried to uninstall and reg clean then reinstall ?? Sounds like some
thing may be goofed on the install.

No sir,

Not on either one. At least not at the same time as VNC. I actually haven't
used or had them use RD for about two months. And at home about the same.
The only machine that I'll use RD/Terminal Services is from a different
client to my server and that's at home.

I don't believe in fast user switching ;)

Damion

PS Sorry! I had earlier jumped into the wrong thread...how clumsy :) I
guess I should read subjects better, eh?

I will certainly give that a go.

Nothing like using your brain and doing some basic things, eh? Shoulda
thought of trying that m'self :)

I have updated one of these machines, hoping that would fix it, but not
cleaned out the registry.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

I'm getting the following message when I'm trying to connect to an Windows
2003 Server running VNC Server 4.0 when noone is logged in:

"SelectObject to CompatibleDC failed: The operation completed successfully
(0)"

I'm using VNC Viewer 4.0 Encoding: AutoSelect Color: Low

Setting the color to Medium or Full results in a VNC Viewer window of size
0,0 (Just the title is displayed). When resized the screen is black.

The connection is tunneled via SSH. VNC Server is only listening to local
connections on port 5900

Running the viewer with somebody logged in on the server is working fine.
Viewer connects without problems.

Same result on 3 different systems.

Any suggestions or ideas ?

JP
