Feel free to download it, but please note that it is targeted specifically towards easy deployment for users who you can talk with as you initiate a user-mode support session. Here's what it is and does.
+ The package is an MSI, so systems using it must have the Windows Installer in place already. The MSI packaging is designed to help admins who want easy deployment, since it could be published via AD.
+ Only winvnc4.exe, vncconfig.exe, and wm_hooks.dll are copied onto the installing system; VNC is NOT installed as a service. Shortcuts to user-mode startup are created under
All Users\Start Menu\Programs\VNC Remote Assistance. One shortcut ("Connect to Remote Assistant") appends the -connect parameter; the other ("Wait for Remote Assistant") just starts VNC and waits.
Obviously this isn't an earthshaking modification. Installs can be completely automated, and if launched interactively the MSI only confirms the target install folder, so there's no chance that the target user will accidentally install as a service.
For actual use, you'll need to be interacting with the end user of course; they must set a password when running it to wait for connection, or you must give them your IP address to plug into the Connect dialog if they are connecting to you. _______________________________________________
