I disagree. Encryption is something best left to programs that specialize in encryption. Why try to maintain your own codebase when there are other secure codebases out there that are easy to set up?

Because "people will choose convenience over security no matter what you do," so you have to impose security on them or the word on the street will be "VNC is not secure." In fact, I hear it all the time. Many people who know practically nothing about VNC know that "VNC is not secure." This is a result of leaving VNC security up to the user.
