No, I never did figure out why the kde version wouldn't give shared sessions.
However, I found an alternative...
If you are running debian, you can apt-get install vnc4, or you can just grab it from realvnc.com (the current official vnc site), then do the instructions on the RealVnc page here:
http://www.realvnc.com/v4/x0.html


If you have any questions let me know...
I'm assuming the functionality you want is so others (1+) can connect to "desktop :0"
