What you describe is do-able, but....

The firewall at your work may not let you connect to vncserver at home,
ie it may (or actually probably will) block tcp port 5900...

If this is the case then, it will be more dificult but still no
problem...

The problems start when they catch you doing what you are obviously not
supposed to be doing!  Please let the network people at your office know
what you are planning to do...  Or you'll really get your self into a
bind!
