Hi James,

I have now identified the reason why my wallpaper was not removed. It was
not, as I thought, related to the logged-on User's status, but directly to
whether or not they had the "Lock Desktop Items" property checked in the
"Desktop Items" "Web" properties page (accessed via the "Desktop" tab in the
"Display Properties" Control Panel applet. - very well-buried!). If the item
is checked the wallpaper is not removed and vice versa. As you indicated, the
VNC connection must be re-established to effect the change. Your remarks were
extremely informative and forced me to think harder. Thanks for your rapid
response.

Cheers, Neil.

  Neil,

VNC 4 (Service-Mode) uses the same settings regardless of the currently
logged on user. What can happen if you log in over the VNC connection is
that Windows re-enables the affected settings after VNC Server has disabled
them, causing the desktop wallpaper to reappear. Disconnecting &
reconnecting will cause the desktop settings to be reapplied in this case.
