Tried this with no joy.  It seem amazing that simple port forwarding may not
work.  However, the Netgear forums are full of such strange issues.

I'm wondering if the DHCP server in the router is causing the problem.  I
haven't used a netgear 
before, but I've used an 8 port Linksys router that wouldn't forward ports
unless I disabled the DHCP 
server.  On the other hand, I've used a 4 port Linksys router and it worked
with the DHCP server 
running.  I upgraded the firmware in the 8 port router and then I could
leave the DHCP server 
running and forward ports just fine.  So, maybe try disabling DHCP to see if
it works and go from 
there.
