So when you try to add the option X won't load at all?

I'm not much of an X guru so maybe another user who has got it running
okay could take a look at your config file?

anyone?

Try just adding the module section first....

does that work ok.

OK, now in the xconfig file you have to add the options under a
section other than module

What is you XFree86 version?

4.something?

I would like to get realVNC 4.0 working with my
desktop screen (which is :0 as opposed to :1 which it
starts off at). It is a pain to connect to :1 with the
old X windowing software and then having to type
'startkde' while still having X sitting on top of it.
Is there anyway to do this? Thanks.

if you get this to work, i'd like to know. I can't seem to place the
option in any of the sections. X11 complains about unexpected and won't
start if i do......

.

My xfree is 4.3 (i just installed the latest one) and i did the load
statment, which doesn't generate an error. I have not found a place
where the option will load without causing a fatal error. Yhe screen
section was suggested and i tried that first but xfree errors out. I
could send a log if i could figure out where the xfree error log is.
It's not listed in the logs section of webmin. I'm running mandrake 9.2
btw.

Ok here's the scoop. I was using a video card driver from 3.3, using XFdrake. Since my s3 card will not work with the s3 drivers i was using the svga driver. Now even though i only had 4.3 installed, using this option forced me into 3.3 mode. I finally found that i could use the vesa driver and after setting up the s3 4.3 driver, i hand edited the config to use the veas driver. I've discovered that i have no web access using the native session 0 support. However using the vnc client works so i'm finally have a way to manage the server without having to go down into the cold basement...... Thanks for all your help, it did get me thinking some more......
