Hi..
I have RealVNC viewer 4 installed on XP and RealVNC server 4 on linux Red Hat 8. i get connected to the server and the result is a black shell screen. I want to know how can i see the linux desktop.. I just can`t see it.
See the faq on the website about gray (or grey?).
On the other hand, a more easy way is to start with the vnc packages that come with your distro. By head, RH has a vnc-server and a vnc-viewer package. Install both and peek into the documentation. The nice thing with the distro-s packages is that they are prepared for the distro and most-times work straight out of installation.
Once you are off, you can update by replacing the binaries (`Xvnc` and `vncveiwer`) with the newer ones you download from the site.
Some details: VNC version 4 has some aditional options and different default values, hence you might like to adapt the `vncserver` script to your preferences.
(even better: configure as described on http://www.sourcecodecorner.com/articles/vnc/linux.asp.)
