This sounds vaguely familiar... I think I read a post today with a similar
error message.... let me go back through today's list postings and see...
Ok. I found a Google archive of the list. Here's a question -- do you have
VNC Server running as a service? If not, that could be the problem.
According to
http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2004-November/048115.html the
error message you're getting means the machine is contactable, but is not
able to connect to an actively running VNC Server. Make sure that you have
VNC running when you try this. Also, make sure you have Fast User Switching
disabled, as that is another known issue (although the Enterprise version is
supposed to have a work-around for this, as will the next free release.)

I did not disable the firewall completely, but I did open up a couple of
ports that were open on the previous connection. When I try to connect to
the static IP address now, I receive the error message "Unable to connect to
host: Connection refused (10061)" Does this give us a clue here as to what
the problem is?

http://www.whatismyip.com and find out what your external IP is and then try
again using that IP.

also, you don't give any details on what O/S, revision, etc you are using.
Also, what about firewalls (hardware and software)?

I just converted from a dynamic ip address dsl service to a static ip
address
dsl service on the VNC server end. I was able to connect to the server
previously, just had to check the new ip address every time I reconnectd to
the internet. Now, I can't seem to connect to the vnc server. I get a
message
that it is timing out on the connection.

On the vnc server, when I was on a dynamic connection, I would hover over
the
VNC server helper icon in the sys tray to get the address. Now with the
static
ip, when I hover over the icon, it doesn't show the ip address.

Does anyone have an suggestions on how to et my connection working again?

Thank you,

Mike Minor
