NO... you cannot just put an icon in the startup folder. It HAS to be
running as a SERVICE under Windows.... just putting it in the startup folder
is not the same thing. You HAVE to use the "service install" option...
either when installing VNC or by going to the start menu, VNC and using the
"install service".

Hi John

I originally installed VNC on all machines and set them to run in
service mode (icon in Start Up folder)

One of my main tasks involves e-mail accounts setup.

The bit that doesn't work is the connection staying alive.
It may work with fast user switching enabled, but with it disabled it
does not seem to work.

Even with an admin account I cant log-off and log-on to another account.

I have to go to work so will try again tonight and then get back to you

Thanks

Alex D

Ok. What part doesn't work? You may have to get someone with admin
priveleges to log in and do this, as it may not work unless you have
administrator priveleges.

Ok. I just installed the Real VNC4 (we use TightVNC here, which is based
on
the VNC3.x sources, etc.) Under start menu, "RealVNC" folder, there
should
be another folder labeled "VNC Server 4 (service mode)". Select
"Register
VNC Service" and then you'll want to run "configure vnc service" if it
doesn't do it automagically.

Yes. That's exactly what running in service mode does. All "user" apps
are
closed when the user logs off, and since VNC in service mode is run as
an
"administrative" app, it does not shut off.

HI all

Thanks for that.

How does running it in service mode help me ?

Does it keep the connection alive during logoff/login ?
