Gosh this is silly. I have pleaded for help as to why VNC version 4 makes the mouse cursor flicker whilst being monitored, and there is no reply. I tried everything, but to no avail, so I uninstalled 4, re-installed 3.3.6 and figured out a .reg file for setting it up for passwordless, silent monitoring (version 4 could be set using on-screen dialogs). It works perfectly, there is no mouse cursor flicker whatsoever, and the Java http viewer now works again. We had XP SP2 but with no firewall enabled. Comms was entirely within the LAN so there should not have been any firewall issues, and certainly port connection was achievable. So, to conclude, VNC 4 is flawed, and has issues that seem to evade even their technical staff. James Weatherall, where are you?
