You will end up with the same problems.  It follows the same logic if
you run a web server on your machine could i get to it from the
Internet, prolly not unless you had a port forward and apropriate
firewall rules.

Do you have VPN at work?  With a vpn connection into work you may be
able to vnc or RD to your machine.

THe other options are more difficult and involve setting up some
tunneling and other such network trickery.
