Alex,
No need for the tone of your last sentence.
Ugh, yeah, I re-read it and it doesn't sound right. For that I apologize. But it does frustrate me a lot when people make bold statements without bothering to take a little time to read what has already been said on the subject :-/
I grasp what you are doing as I am sure many others are. I even see it's benefit, but I'll agree with Jerry, that using an outside initiation or mediation server is a little questionable. Nothing is free, and you can't assume people to be so trustworthy just because you say so.
Right, totally agree. We are addressing this problem by opening parts of the system responsible for security and communication.
> None of us know you, so we are
allowed to have questions and to put what you say and do under speculation, especially with Hamachi's functionality.
Sure thing, I'd be hugely disappointed if you didn't :) It is just these speculations sometimes boil down to 'it is likely evil, because it is not open-sourced' argument. As I said in a previous email to this list, the trustworthness does not follow from the source being open.
Trustworthness comes from the open _standards_, not open _source_.
I was answering all security questions in the context of former assuming that it'd enough for a serious paranoid to confirm that we mean no evil.
Is the the mediation server software available for download? This would answer alot of questions I think it if someone could put that on their server. Then a corporation, home user, small office, etc... would know where information is going.
No, but (a) the security architecture is open (b) the protocol will be open in a few weeks (not because we have something to hide, but because we keep changing it during the beta). Do you agree this should be enough to let anyone interested to see all data flows ?
If it isn't available publicly, perhaps this would be for the next version of Hamachi, the server code as well? Your software, so your call...
I think it's inapproprate to discuss non-VNC product development on this list (as we are already in offtopic). Email me privately if you would like to continue this part of the discussion.
