Hi there,

The problem you're seeing is that the programs you're using assume that
you'll only run one copy per-user - they aren't capable of running as the
same user but on different desktops.  This is a long-standing issue with
many Gnome applications, if I remember correctly.

You can either kill the existing running processes on your console desktop,
or use the VNC module for XFree86 to remote your console desktop.  Please
see the online docs for further details.
