You need to follow the instruction here: http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1324 Instead of using port 3389, enter port 5900. The "private IP" is the local IP of your WinXP box (if you don't know it, do "ipconfig" from a DOS prompt). For protocol type, choose "TCP". Then, from a remote location, you must specify your external IP when using the VNC Viewer. If you do not now what that is, go to http://myipaddress.com and it will tell you.
2 notes here. First, if you are XP, you probably ALSO have the XP built-in firewall enabled. If so, you will also have to allow incoming connections to 5900 through the network property settings. Second, if the remote machine will also be an XP box, then you should really use the built-in Remote Desktop feature of XP.
