Thank you, very much!
I will have time later today to follow your instructions.
I am not really a tech person, but VNC will save us money, as we are
exanding our offices, and it is too expensive to order a static ip from
our ISP. GoToMyPc for more than one computer seems a little expensive.
Best,

First thing you need to do is "port forward" on the router in order to
forward connections to the PC you want. (THen internal addreses of
the pcs should be static.) You need to forward port 5900 by default
for windows. port forwarding instructions can be found at
www.portforward.com for most routers.
To use it with a dynamic (non-static) IP try sigining up for a dynamic
domain name at no-ip.com or dyndns.com.
they have free accounts wher you run a piece of software on your
computer which checks if the IP is different and when it is it updates
your domain name. so to connect you do this by domain name, e.g.
"mydomain.no-ip.org"

Hi All;
I am looking to remotely connect to a computer residing in a local area
network that connects to the internet by a router. The viewing computer
will be offsite, at different location. Our computers are running XP.
The internet connection is DSL. Our internet service provider gives us
a dynamic IP address; if we reboot the router and log off we are
reassigned a new IP address when we log back on. We seldom reboot our
router.
Will I be able to use a VNC program if I do not have a static IP address?
How do I connect to the computer attached to the router? I assume the
router has the main ip address, do I type that first, then do I type the
name of the LAN computer?
I have played a bit within the LAN; I can initiate a connection from the
server to the other LAN computer with a viewer in "listen" mode. But I
cannot initiate a session from the viewer computer; either by typing in
the workgroup name or the lan computer IP address. I get a "failed to
connect to server" error.
I don't especially need service between the LAN computers, but if I
can't set it up there I won't be able to use the offsite computer as a
viewing pc.
Thank you for any pointers you can give.
