I got the impression that the OP wanted to, as an example, have two people working on different Excel spreadsheets at the same time on the same PC. Obviously that's not going to work as only one person can input data at a time, even with "shared sessions."

You just set the preferences to allow multiple clients to connect to the same machine. I do that all the time.
