Scott --
thank you for the reply;
When I start the viewer on the laptop I use the server's IP address. "Ping"
times out.
Ping must be trying to use the wired network adaptor - which has no cable
connected; the only network connection from the laptop is the wireless
adaptor.
Ipconfig shows:both the wireless and the wired adaptor; an ip address for
the wireless and "media state media disconnected" for the wired
adaptor
DoI need to do something to force realvnc viewer to the proper network
adaptor?????
Gary

Heya. Quick question: when you start the Viewer on the
laptop and "specify the desktop server", do you use the server's
PC name or its LAN IP address (10.0.0.xxx I hope)? If using
the IP address doesn't work, what does it say when you run
"ping <vnc.server.ip.address> from the command line?

New Dell laptop -- Windows xp home
the laptop has a Dell wireless card
A linksys wireless access point is connected to a linksys hub
The Desktop pc is connected to the linksys hub
A Speedstream 5660 router is also connected to the linksys hub.
Existing desktop --- Windows XP pro
Latest version of Realvnc free installed on both pc's
Firewalls turned off for purposes of testing Realvnc
Realvnc viewer on Desktop pc connects to laptop server without any
problem
Can run a listening vnc viewer on laptop and then connect to the laptop
viewer by right clicking desktop server icon and selecting "add new
client"
I can access internet from laptop and the laptop can access shared
folders on the desktop pc
However --- a viewer started on the laptop specifying the desktop
server will NOT start (it times out).
