Wa-hey! It worked! All I had to do was replace "twm" with "startkde" in the /.vnc/xstartup file, as you suggested. Thanks James!!!! Angus. James Weatherall wrote:
Angus, You probably want to replace "twm" with "startkde". If you still see problems, ensure that you're not also logged in on the console of the Linux system with KDE - off the top of my head, I can't remember whether KDE refuses to run two sessions on the same machine for the same user, or whether that's only a Gnome problem. I'm using VNC between Windows XP and Linux (Mepis). I can get the XP desktop to appear properly on Linux, but at the XP end, all I can get is the Linux console with a grey background. After reading about a few similar problems in the mailing list archives and elsewhere, I tinkered with the xstartup and .xinitrc files. Specifically, I replaced the 'twm' entry with 'kdm' in xstartup, and in .xinitrc I added an entry for startkde, as well as something else that I can't remember right now (I removed the line). Nothing so far has worked. I really want to get this to work. Can anyone suggest some steps that I should try? By the way, I am a complete newbie, so please assume that I know next to nothing about Linux! Cheers, Angus. _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [email protected] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [email protected] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
