Did you forward the port to the proper internal IP?  It sounds like you have
a router installed, so I assume you assigned a static internal IP to your
computer (the one you wish to remote control).

Some more info would help us help you.

I tried opening the ports. I tried enabling dmz. I just can't connect from
outside the network. All attempts time out.

what is going on here? I've never had such a problem. The ports are open.
People can ping me. Yet the server can't connect.
