No, I'm not aware of any RealVNC documentation that specifically states
whether the loadable X module does or does not support the java applet.
Sorry.

You are saying this method does not allow HTTP access via java
applet. Are you aware of any (RealVNC) documentation on this?
Thanks.

What method are you using to control desktop :0?
Are you using a loadable X module, or perhaps running x0vncserver?
Unlike "vncserver", I don't believe these methods allow HTTP access
via the java applet.
Personally, I use the x11vnc server to control my :0 desktop, and
love it. It's very fast, fully supports the java applet (make sure to
run with -http switch) and has all kinds of other functionality (such
as sharing a single window instead of the whole desktop).
If you're curious, you can download RPM's for RH9 from here:

Good luck.

I have recently setup VNC (Version 4.1.1), with the VNC Server
running on a
RedHat Linux 9 ("my Linux PC"), and VNC Viewer on a Windows XP (SP2).
After I run "vncserver :1" on my Linux PC, I can access the vnc server
desktop 1 on the server, using either a browser or a vnc viewer from
my XP. I
can even get a Gnome desktop.
The problem I have is trying to access the native display on my
Linux PC. I
can only do that from a vnc viewer, but not from a browser.
After I boot up up my Linux PC (and with or without running
"vncserver :1") ,
I can access the native desktop from my XP, using a vnc viewer (by
typing in
"myvncserver:0" into the server field when the "vnc server: connection
details" dialog comes up. It works like a charm.
However, when I tried to access the native display by using a
browser (with
the url http://myvncserver:5800), the connection was refused. I am
at a loss
as to why. I checked the router in front of my Linux PC, and the
port 5800,
5801 5900 and 5901 are forwarded to my Linux PC, and the iptables at
/etc/sysconfig also have the appropriate lines opening up 5800,
5801, 5900,
5901 for input.
With desktop 1 running, I can connect to my Linux PC with
http://myvncserver:5801. The applet will load and the "vnc server:
connection
details" dialog opens up, and I can type into the server field
"myvncserver:0"
to access the native display or "myvncserver:1" to access the
desktop 1.
Question is why can't I access the native display with
http://myvncserver:5800
?????

YS Kwong
