Thought it looked weird, but I tossed it up to the vnc server just being old. > Is there some reason why you can't upgrade the server to an actual VNC > server? It is possible, but not something I want to attempt. The server is part of Thinstation, a small Linux distro for booting thin clients. Thinstation includes an ancient version of x4vnc. I guess that's the source of the problem. Anyway, besides this problem, can the protocol version being used by the viewer be specified in the Linux viewer? The Thinstation user mailing list already has a reply from someone stating that the Windows version of the viewer works with Thinstation's vnc server, if the Protocol3.3 option is used. Thanks for the help.
