JimD,

Put simply:  installing/uninstalling the standard VNC distribution *cannot*
have done this to your computer or user profile.  The
installation/uninstallation procedure simply doesn't do anything that could
prevent explorer from running.

Do you have the same problem when you log in as a different user?

Are you running an up-to-date virus checker?

Have you checked the Event Logs on the system for errors from core OS
components?
