Is the server using protocol 4? Have you tried checking the "Only use

Subject: Windows to Linux window closes, no messages

Hi...

I have RealVNC on Windows trying to connect to xVNC on Linux, and the session apparantly fails, but with no indication why..

On the Windows end I have RealVNC Personal Edition 4.1.2 on Windows 2000, and it can connect to other hosts. On the Linux end I have SuSE SLES9 host running xVNC. When I start the Viewer and fill in the server address (10.100.105.14::5901), I get a window that pops up for just a second saying something like "attempting to connect", then the window closes with no other indication of a problem.

If I try to connect to other ports (5900, 5902, etc.) I get "connection refused".

I can connect to the Linux Java port (5801) with my browser with no problem. And I can use the VNC Viewer to access other (Windows) systems.

My /etc/xinetd.d/vnc entry for 5901 looks like:

service vnc1
{
        socket_type     = stream
        protocol        = tcp
        wait            = no
        user            = nobody
        server          = /usr/X11R6/bin/Xvnc
server_args = :42 -inetd -once -query localhost -geometry 1024x768 -
depth 16
        type            = UNLISTED
        port            = 5901
}

And for each time I've tried to start a session, in /var/log/xinetd.log I have the following one line entry of:

05/12/[EMAIL PROTECTED]:33:33: START: vnc1 from=10.100.105.1

Any suggestions on what's wrong or where to look?

Thanks,
Lee
