Does your PC have an IP address like 192.168.x.y or 10.x.y.z? If so, your
cable modem is acting as a router. Does the IP address you get when you
browse to http://www.whatismyip.com different from the IP you show on your
computer? That's another indication that your cable modem is acting as a
router. IF you go to http://www.gotomyvnc.com you can scan your IP address
for listening VNC servers and that'll tell you if you have the correct
configuration. Please note that if you're running Windows XP with SP2, you
have a firewall *enabled by default* and you'll need to make an exception in
the firewall for ports 5800, and 5900, and maybe even the VNC Server
(winvnc4.exe).
